Laser Hair Removal
Laser hair removal is simply one
of the greatest innovations in cosmetic surgery to come around this part of the century. While there have been
easier ways to get rid of unwanted body hair that have been around for hundreds of years, nothing is more
efficient, and advanced, than the use of lasers. Many people feel that laser surgery is the right option for
them in comparison to shaving or waxing, simply because the hair grows back so fast.
The main difference between laser hair
removal and many of the other methods for hair removal that are out there is that lasers remove the hair
from the root, making it practically impossible for the hair to grow back in the future, as opposed to say shaving,
in which the hairs are just cut as close to the skin's surface as possible, or waxing, which rips the hairs out,
but leaves the root intact, taking much, much longer for the hairs to grow back, yet they always
do.
Laser hair removal first became commercially avialable in the
mid seventies, and has since grown into a multi million dollar industry. Just like most cosmetic surgeries however,
it generally is not covered by insurance, and for the most part, many people have it done even though it is not
medically necessary. There are medical reasons to have laser hair removal done, many of which are basically rare,
and exceptional cases.
Many people believe that laser hair removal is
the best alternative to shaving, or waxing, simply because the hair is less likely to grow back, however, there are
some downsides of laser hair removal. Some of downsides to laser hair removal might include but are not limited to:
discoloration or burning of skin, acne, and even swelling around the hair folicle.
Other uses for this form of hair removal would be to help treat
razor bumps and ingrown hairs, and usually provide good results. Side effects for this treatment may include
burning, although this shouldn't last longer than a few days. Many of the people who choose to have laser hair
removal done are people who simply do not have the option to shave or wax the affected area for whatever reason,
and possibly feel lasers are the better option for medical purposes.
The price for laser hair removal is relatively
high, and even though it has been around for over thirty years or so, it is still considered a relatively new
procedure. Many people who get it done, whether it be for medical purposes, or cosmetic, have to pay directly out
of pocket, in that many insurance companies simply won't cover it, even if it is for a medical condition.
As the prices are so high, it is a good idea to do everything you can before you consider this procedure, and save
as much as you can before hand, and make sure that this truly is the right option for you.
